Laiju Begum is not lagging behind in social status by cutting the cat of unsanitary and uncleanliness
Laiju Begum lives at Bastala village of Barabgi Union of Taltali Upazila under Barguna district, she disabled since birth period;her old is 18-years.She is 3rd child of her parents. He grew up in a family of needy parents with extreme disrespect and neglected. Any child is thrown away from the parents’ family before the time passes and finds shelter in the family of old Grand Parents of her Gand Father old is 68-years Ab. Barek took care of her and brought her up to them.
Laiju Begum’s father, Md. Nursahed Mia, lived in a residence in Jale Para and supported his family through his profession as a fisherman. Four children were born o ne by one in his family. In this needy family, the 3rd child Laiju Begum was born without two legs. Although she spent her childhood through humiliations, family malnutrition, neglect and disrespect, she took refuge in her parents’ family when she was a teenager. For 10 years, this young woman has been a burden on her 68-year-old grandfather’s family. His grandfather used to earn food for the family by doing daily wages in his old age. He used to get 10-12 days of work in a month to cover the whole month’s expenses. Laiju Begum was very helpless in this family of grandparents. Even if he wanted to, he could not do anything because of his physical handicap. A community consultation was organized by the initiative of Ishana Nari Foundation under Sundarban Coalition project at Khajurarpool Youth Club in Barabagi Union with the combination of more than hundred women, men, community members and groups of Barobhai Jora and Bastala. In the meeting discussion through the list was prepared by discussing in detail about disaster-prone infrastructure, financially poor families, poor people with special needs of communities specially PWD family member considering that lack clean water and Improve latrine . In this list, the name of Laiju Begum comes in the 1st table of the list as the most endangered and special needs family member. According to the needs of this year, a disaster-resilient disable Friendly improve latrine established with funding from the Sundarbans Coalition Project.
As a result of establishing Improve Latrine, his great grandmother’s family, neighborhood and society increased his status. Learned hygienic latrine usage rules. In addition, the people of the community have learned the art of constructing disaster-resilient latrines.
Laiju Begum’s family, neighbors and society seem to be a burden but a w ealth has been established in her name. Which is also an opportunity to learn something new using his family members. At least the family and neighborhood people appreciated to her due to Improve latrine management on hygienic way.
Laiju’s dream is to share her cleanliness lessons with other families and establish herself as a partner in building a clean society.
